Siemens, Northwestern Medicine Team Up on Cancer Care

The strategic alliance will advance imaging, theranostics, and oncology innovation across the greater Chicago area.

Northwestern Medicine and Siemens Healthineers have forged a multi-year strategic collaboration to redefine diagnostics and cancer care. Specifically, the partnership aims to accelerate innovation in imaging, theranostics, interventional radiology, and radiation oncology to deliver a new standard of precision care. 

“This alliance represents our commitment to innovation in imaging and cancer care,” said James Carr, M.D., chair, Department of Radiology, Northwestern Medicine and professor of Radiology, Medicine, and Biomedical Engineering, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. “By integrating Siemens Healthineers’ advanced technologies with Northwestern Medicine’s clinical expertise, we can create a future where patients benefit from faster diagnoses, more personalized treatments, and transformative outcomes across the continuum of care.” 

Bringing together advanced technologies and streamlined workflows, Northwestern Medicine and Siemens Healthineers are attempting to set a new standard for compassionate, effective cancer care. Employing state-of-the-art technology, software, and advisory services, Northwestern Medicine and Siemens Healthineers will establish a global center of excellence in theranostics, a personalized approach that uses radiopharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis and treatment. 

Areas of focus include: 

  • Patient journey transformation: Reimagining oncology care pathways to enhance the patient experience while increasing efficiency and improving outcomes. 
  • Theranostics leadership: Establishing a global center of excellence for radiopharmaceutical-based diagnosis and treatment. 
  • Interventional radiology innovation: Advancing interventional MRI and other minimally invasive procedures while enhancing collaborations with leading device companies. 
  • Radiation oncology optimization: AI-enhanced workflows for faster, more accurate treatment planning and delivery.
